What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolution in orthodontics, helping to straighten teeth without the use of fixed metal braces.

A series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners are used to gently, efficiently and accurately move your teeth into their new straighter position.

The clear aligners are moulded to fit your teeth and can be easily removed for eating and brushing. You can even remove them for a night out or special occasion, making this teeth straightening solution a popular lifestyle choice for adults and teens wanting to feel good about their smile.

Moving your teeth little by little and with no sharp edges or individual brackets, you’ll hardly notice you’re wearing each new set of aligners. And because they’re almost invisible, no-one else needs to notice them at all!

4 steps to straight teeth with Invisalign in Croydon

step one: initial consultation

Your Invisalign journey at Feel Good Dental starts with a free consultation with our highly experienced dentist. They’ll check your dental health and ensure Invisalign is a suitable treatment for you.

step two: Digital impressions

We’ll use the latest digital technology to take scans of your teeth, sending them to the Invisalign laboratory for your custom-made aligners to be prepared. We’ll also be able to estimate your length of treatment and likely outcome at this stage.

step three: Wear your aligners

Once your clear aligners are ready, you’ll wear them for about two weeks, before swapping them for the next set in the series, and so on, until your treatment is complete. The aligners will gradually and gently move your teeth into their new straighter position.

step four: Enjoy your feel good smile

Once you have your new straight smile, it’s important to take care of it! We recommend our Invisalign patients wear a custom post-treatment retainer as often as possible, to encourage your teeth to stay right where they are.

FAQs about Teeth Straightening with Invisalign

What dental problems can Invisalign help correct?

The main reason patients choose Invisalign is to improve the appearance of their smile. If your teeth are crowded, separated or crooked, then Invisalign could be a good treatment choice for you, as the clear aligners can reposition your teeth into a straighter position and improve your smile.

What are Invisalign aligners made of?

Invisalign aligners are custom-made from a transparent thermoplastic material. It’s an FDA-approved, medical-grade material that is safe for human use. They’re almost invisible when worn on your teeth, so people won’t notice that you’re wearing them.

How often will I need to visit my dentist during my Invisalign treatment?

After the initial appointments to discuss your teeth straightening needs and provide you with your Invisalign clear aligners, your Feel Good Dental dentist will usually want to see you again every  four to six weeks. That way they can ensure the treatment is progressing as planned and provide you with the next set of aligners in the series.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The length of treatment varies from case to case, as everyone’s teeth are different. Invisalign treatment generally takes around a year, but in more complex cases, the treatment can last two or three years. The length of treatment will depend on how misaligned your teeth are, the number of teeth to be corrected, and your age. Your dentist will determine your treatment length during your first appointment at Feel Good Dental

How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?

For Invisalign to be effective, you’ll need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, so you’ll be wearing them for most of the day and night. You can take them out for a few hours a day to eat and clean your teeth.

Will the aligners affect my speech?

It can take some time to get used to having invisalign aligners in your mouth, but they are very thin and you’ll soon be able to speak normally. They’ll be comfortable to wear too, with patients only reporting minor discomfort for one or two days after they’ve been fitted with new aligners, because they’re doing their job of moving your teeth!

Can I leave my aligners in while eating?

No, you will need to take your Invisalign aligners out to eat and drink anything apart from water. This is because they can be stained by heavily pigmented foods and drinks and damaged by chewing hard foods.
